Adding a Meta Description and Viewing the Code
When you add the meta description, be sure to use standard capitalization, spelling,
grammar, and punctuation for ease of reading. Users quickly scan search results look-
ing for a particular topic or site and might skip diffi cult-to-read descriptions. The meta
description tag is similar to the meta keywords tag:
<metaƒname=”description”ƒcontent=”Theƒdescriptionƒtextƒgoesƒhere.”ƒ/>
The tag begins with an opening bracket followed by the name of the tag, meta . The
name attribute has the value of “description” to specify that this tag provides a summary
of the Web site. The value of the content attribute is the description text. The tag ends
with a forward slash and a closing bracket.
