Social Web . See Social Network.
Software . An system-based application that enables the performance of
specific functions in the digital and electronic contexts. It may be based on a
computer, the Internet, a mobile phone or other devices.
Spam . An email sent to recipients on a database with the motive of
promoting or advertising products and services, mostly undesired by the
reiepients. The email addresses are often obtained in a fraudulent manner
and are often traded with other companies. In other words as soon as an
email address gets in the hands of a “spammer”, it is most likely already on
its way to hundreds of other databases. Thank God for spam blockers.
Ta g . A bookmark or ticket in the form of a code that is used to provide the
information about a website needed for its referencing in search engines.
Tag Marketing . This is a code placed on web pages to record visits to the
pages. Its purpose is to measure the rate of activity on the pages, the level of
interest of the contents and the rate of transformation from a simple visit to a
transaction.
TiVo . An electronic television programming that features the possibility
of recording multiple TV programs both present and past, according to their
title, actor, director, category, or keyword. It also provides other benefits
such as downloads, advanced search, personal photo viewing, music offer-
ings, and online scheduling.
Twitter . A social website that provides the possibility of staying connected
with people and informing them of events in real time. It permits communica-
tions through text characters, web links and images. Contrary to popular belief,
this is not a disease but an important phenomenon in the current web evolution.
UNIX . This is an operating system that functions in much the same way as
other operating systems such as Windows and MAC, although it has lost its
popularity over the years.
URL (Uniform Resource Locator). This is a chain of codes and characters
that allow the identification of the address of a website in the World Wide
Web that is typed in the internet navigation bar.
Viral Marketing . The practice of using sending and forwarding the links
to web pages to others directly from the website. It is the equivalent of word-
of-mouth publicity and is sometimes referred to as “word-of-mouse”.
Virtual Immersive World . A digital-based simulated environment intended
for its users to inhabit and interact through personal avatars. These avatars
