Reporting . A report system that shows the returns on an online advert or
email campaign in real time.
Rich Media . These are multi-media technologies such as videos, anima-
tions, sound, which could be included in websites, adverts or emails.
RSS Feed (Really Simple Syndication). This is a system that allows peo-
ple to subscribe to a website and permits them to receive the updates on the
website in real time without having to visit the websites. This is particularly
useful for websites whose contents change frequently, such as media web-
sites and blogs.
Sample Sale . The practice of selling products on line at marked-down
prices generally significantly lower than their original prices. These websites
use a concept of exclusivity (members only) and short sale periods (between
24 and 72 hours) to entice online shoppers.
Search Engine . A web search tool that automatically references web pages
and classifies them according to their popularity and frequency of visits. The
search results are based on keywords or key phrases and are found by what
is known as a “robot” or a “spider” (which by the way is not visible on the
page, in case you're wondering)
Search Engine Marketing . A marketing approach that uses the search
engine as its main activity field, mainly through regrouping sponsored links
and natural references and identifying ways for higher visibility in this context.

Second Life . A fully integrated virtual world where the users exist through
personal avatars that perform nearly all human functions and activities as in
the physical world.
Skin . This is a graphic tool that allows the alteration of the appearance of a
web page. It is often used in the context of advertisements or brand identity
reinforcement.
Smart Phone . A mobile phone that offers advanced capabilities and func-
tions similar to the ones found on a computer. These functions could include
an integrated operating system, email, internet access, e-book reader, USB
port or VGA connector.
SMS (Short Message Service). This is a system that allows sending short
text-bsed messages through a mobile phone.
Social Network . An online community that thrives on congregating thou-
sands of users at a time to connect, exchange, collaborate, converse, share
and influence one another in multiple ways. The communities may be based
on a specific interest area or otherwise.
