tent according to the interest areas of their readers.
Firewall
. A system integrated on a computer or a server for protection
against intrusion from unsolicited advertisements, emails, information or
web content. It may be put in place by web-hosting companies, individuals
or enterprises. In simple terms firewalls are what you need for a peaceful
online existence.
Flash
. A macromedia format provided by Adobe that enables the reading
and visualization of text, images and animations on websites.
Flickr
. An online photo management and sharing website that enables the
exchange of images and social interactions around them.
FriendFeed
. A website that allows people to build customized content
with friends on other collaborative sites according to what they have shared,
including news articles, photos, videos and comments. It basically customizes
web content according to people's interest areas. And of course it's free.
Geek
. A person who is considered to be inordinately dedicated and
addicted to technology in all of its forms. The general perception of a geek is
a boring intellectual whose world revolves around somewhere between com-
puter codes and wires in an office hidden in the dark and lonely end of the
hallway of a large corporation. In many cases he (or she) is also imagined
to wear dark-rimmed glasses and to posses the strange power of being fully
alert irrespective of sleeping an average of two hours per night and downing
an average of twenty cups of coffee per day. And no, I am not a geek.
Google
. Let's try this: type in “google” in Google and see what comes up.
That's your definition.
Google Bombing
. The (unethical) practice of using the keywords that
describe other websites' activities to increase the visibility and referencing
of the unethical company's website. In other words the purchase of either the
keywords linked to specific companies or the integration of their web page
linked in the background of other websites to increase their visibility on
Google searches. This practice equals stealing and no amount of tech jargon
can justify it so watch out offenders as Google bombing is now under sur-
veillance by authorities.
GPS
(Global Positioning System). A system of satellites that orbit the earth
and enables people with ground receivers to pinpoint their geographical
location.
GSM
(Global System for Mobile communications). A digital mobile phone
technology that is the predominant system in the global mobile world.
