In-Depth Information
THE NORTHWEST
The northwest region of the Kyrenia Range includes the Koruçam (Kormakitis) Peninsula.
To the south are the agricultural town of Güzelyurt (Morfou) and its bay. The pretty hilled
village of Lefke (Lefka) and one-time mining port of Gemikonağı (Karavostasi) are to the
west. Further still are the important archaeological sites of Ancient Soloi and Ancient
Vouni.
Distances here are relatively short, with the journey best seen in a circular route, return-
ing to North Nicosia (Lefkoşa) via the peninsula and Kyrenia, or vice versa. There is also a
border crossing (at the Green Line) to the Republic of Cyprus, at Zodhia, near Güzelyurt.
r Beaches
The 12km stretch west of Gemikonağı has a mixture of sand and pebbly beaches, ending at
the border with the South.
Yedidalga Beach BEACH
(Yedidalga Plaji) F
This pebbled public beach with stretches of imported sand has a wooden pier for diving
and swimming, a small bar and restaurant, a changing room and toilet facilities. It is well
signposted and easily found.
Asmalı Beach BEACH
F
Asmalı Beach is slap-bang in front of the border village of Yeşilirmak (Limnitis). It's a
clean pebbled beach, with a few restaurants surrounding it, catering to those who travel this
far.
8 Getting Around
Regular dolmuşes (minibuses) run from North Nicosia and Kyrenia (Girne) during the day,
roughly every half hour to Güzelyurt (Morfou 4TL), and Gemikonağı (5TL) and Lefke
(5TL) both via Güzelyurt.
However, getting around is far easier with your own transport, especially if you want to
see Ancient Soloi and Ancient Vouni.
