2. Draw an outline of the animal on the acetate or tracing paper.
3. Study the photo carefully. Imagine you are stroking the animal or brush-
ing its fur. Your hand would follow the direction of hair growth, or the
animal would be uncomfortable.
4. Draw arrows on the tracing to indicate the direction your pencil strokes
should follow. (You don't need to draw the arrows on your final drawing;
just use the fur map as a guide.)
Reference Photo
I sometimes attend dog and cat shows to take reference photos. That way I
know I'm getting photos of prime examples of the breeds. This photo was
taken in the grooming area at a local cat show.
