Dense Fur
Here I have added more pencil strokes to make the fur more dense, and I
have blended the strokes with a tortillion.
To create fur strokes, begin where the hair connects to the animal's body
(the hair root). Gently increase the pressure through the middle of your pen-
cil stroke, then gradually lift the pressure so the line tapers. Remember, the
fur conforms to the shape of the animal.
Correct Fur Strokes
These strokes are correctly tapered. Remember that the lines should never
be straight.
creating a fur map
If you're a beginner, you may find it useful to create a “fur map” to help
you visualize the direction of hair growth before you begin your animal
drawing.
1. Lay a sheet of acetate or tracing paper over your photo.
