here for fabulous views and a no-frills rural stay in an 18th-century farmhouse, still in the
same Ricciardella family. A large outside terrace is hung with corn cobs and tomatoes and
there's an original oven for baking bread. The rooms are pleasant with wrought-iron or
dark-wood furnishings and small tiled bathrooms. Various activities, including trekking
and horse riding, can be organised.
Agriturismo La Loggia degli Alburni €
( 334 3204398; Sicignano e'Alburni; s/d incl breakfast €30/40; ) More of a coun-
try hotel than a true agriturismo , but the setting is sublime, high up in a grove of chestnut
trees overlooking the magnificent castle. Follow the signs from the village, along a rough
track, backed by steep forested slopes. The rooms are large, modern and comfortable. The
dining room, complete with colourful hunting mural, serves good traditional fare like
home-made tagliolini pasta in a ragù sauce (meals €25). Popular with walkers.
