In business since the 1950s,
Fuji Tori stocks a good range of
high-quality Imari porcelain,
woodblock prints, scrolls,
Buddhist statuary, tansu chests,
and lacquerware. The products
sold here are priced fairly and
their authenticity is certified.
Hand-painted screens are its
specialty. The English-speaking
staff are friendly and willing to

This store specializes in
wagashi , traditional Japanese
sweets, which are like petite
cakes made from rice, bean
paste, and sweet potato. A
delight for the eyes as much as
the palette, wagashi are served
during the tea ceremony.
Akebono's sweets are sold in
some of the better department
store food basements (see p77) .

The sixth-floor selection
of English books here is one of
the best and largest in Tokyo. It
offers a good number of books
in French and German, and a
wide variety of magazines in
