Occupying a Renaissance-era
palazzo
located in a quiet but conveni-
ent corner of the city, this extremely friendly hotel offers rooms with frescoed ceilings,
huge beds and small but well-equipped bathrooms. Suites are even more impressive, with
views over the delightful rear garden. The free on-site parking is a major draw and low-
season rates are a huge bargain.
Note that the three cheapest rooms are in the loft and, though charming, have small
windows and even smaller bathrooms.

Located in a tree-lined boulevard opposite the Fortezza Medicea, this Liberty -style
villa has been converted into a 17-room hotel and is one of the city's best midrange
choices. Though the Campo is only a 15-minute walk away, the area is less touristy than
the historic centre and there is free (but highly contested) parking right outside the hotel.
Rooms are light and modern, with comfortable beds and small but perfectly adequate
bathrooms; the superior versions have free tea- and coffee-making facilities.

Siena's most charming hotel has only six rooms, all individually decorated and
luxuriously equipped. Breakfast is served in the sumptuously decorated lounge or on the
terrace, with a sensational view of the
duomo
and Torre del Mangia.

Around 2.5km north of Siena, this 19th-century villa with two an-
nexes is set in formal gardens and has plenty of amenities, including a swimming pool,
restaurant (dinner Thursday to Tuesday €40) and tennis court. Guests driving through the
region can leave their cars here and catch the bus into Florence for day trips (the bus stop
is directly outside the property).
