age corridors open onto slick, spacious rooms, all with king-size beds, quality linen, huge
plasma screens and iPod docks. Choose from bridge, harbour or city views. Affable staff
complete a very impressive package.

charm reigns supreme at this faded but well-run B&B, which has 25 rooms in a pair of
three-storey 1881 terrace houses. The more expensive rooms are larger and have bal-

is good bang for your buck on the quiet part of Bayswater Rd, with nouveau-Med rooms
and smiley staff who go out of their way not to get in your way. The cafe downstairs does
whopping cooked breakfasts (included in the price) for those barbarous Kings Cross
hangovers. Two-night minimum.

Despite its proximity to Kings Cross and the city, Woolloomooloo is a relat-
ively quiet place to stay. This tidy backstreet block offers spacious apartments ranging
from roomy studios to two-bedrooms. The decor is beyond dated (we doubt the stained-
glass partitions were ever 'on trend'), but the apartments all have kitchens and some also
have balconies and laundries.

cracker little hostel? Behind the shocking blue-and-mustard-painted bricks is a well-main-
tained, secure little place with a lazy courtyard strung with hammocks. There are no
private rooms, just dorms. Renovations in progress at the time of research (we told you it
was well-maintained) hampered some of our usual snooping.
