DRINKING & NIGHTLIFE
You can only hang out at the beach and wander the shops in Kits for so
long. After a while, the bars will start calling your name. Don't be afraid to
listen. UBC has a couple of watering holes, which are great if you need a
drink on campus, but there are better options a short bus ride away.
CORDUROY
BAR
(

;
1943 Cornwall Ave; 5:30pm-2am Mon-Sat; 22)
Handily
located near the first bus stop after the Burrard Bridge (when coming from downtown),
this tiny spot is arguably Kitsilano's best haunt. Slide onto a bench seat and peruse the
oddball artworks - junkshop pictures and carved masks - then order a house beer from
the shingle-covered bar: if you're lucky, it'll be served in a boot-shaped glass.
Tempting cocktails are also offered at this quirky spot and there are often live events,
including open-mike and comedy nights.
GALLEY PATIO & GRILL
PUB
(

;
Jericho Sailing Centre, 1300 Discovery St; 9am-10pm Jun-Aug, reduced
hours off-season; ; 4)
A terrific perch at sunset: plop down in one of the plastic
patio chairs then eyeball the sailboats steering toward shore as the pyrotechnic sky un-
folds. There are usually a couple of BC wine offerings, along with tasty local beers
from R&B Brewing (the Sun God Wheat Ale is recommended in summer). Grub is of
the fish-and-chips variety.
This is a family-friendly joint where you'll mostly meet locals. They're always up
for a chat and you can quiz them about other sunset-viewing spots around the city
(they'll likely mention Third Beach in Stanley Park).
