Stopping the machine
Do not use any milling machine before you are familiar with the controls and
are aware of the ways that you have of stopping the machine. This may be a
clutch, an on/off switch, a No Volts release switch or an emergency stop but-
ton. If your milling machine does not have a No Volts release switch, I strongly
advise you to fit one. As well as being useful to stop the milling machine in an
emergency, it will also prevent the milling machine from starting up by itself
should a power cut have occurred. If you are not comfortable working with
electrical equipment, get a qualified electrician to fit the switch for you.
Shut off the power supply to the motor before doing any operations that re-
quire access to the mill, such as changing tools, measuring work, mounting
or removing accessories and so on. The milling machine must be safely
stopped. Just zeroing a variable-speed drive is not safely stopping it. Unplug
the machine, switch it off and use the No Volts switch as well.
