In-Depth Information
Fig. 3.4. You should fit and use a No Volts release switch on any machine in the
home workshop.
Leaving the mill
Never ever walk away, even for a moment, while the milling machine you are
using is switched on. Switch it off if you are leaving it unattended, and only
leave the milling machine when it has come to a complete stop.
Never leave a milling machine in an unsafe condition. The chances are that
if you are halfway through setting up the milling machine, when you come
back you will forget what you have or have not done. If in doubt, leave a big
notice for yourself telling you to check that the milling machine is safe before
continuing. A whiteboard with suitable felt-tip markers is useful for this.
GUARDS
New milling machines will be fitted with guards over the motor, the drive belt
and the spindle pulleys. These guards should always be in place before using
the mill. Any other moving parts should be guarded for safety. Guards should
be made from suitable material and not have sharp edges.
