In-Depth Information
If you spent a week in New York and went out shooting every day, once you got
all your shoots into Lightroom, you'd probably have collections with names like
Times Square, Central Park, 5th Avenue, The Village, and so on. Because Lightroom
automatically alphabetizes collections, these related shoots (they're all in New York,
taken during the same trip) would be spread out throughout your list of collections.
This is just one place where collection sets come in handy, because you could put
all those shoots under one collection set: New York.
Organizing Multiple
Shoots Using
Collection Sets
Step One:
To create a collection set (which just
acts like a folder to keep related collec-
tions organized together), click on the
little + (plus sign) button on the right
side of the Collections panel header
(in the left side Panels area), and choose
Create Collection Set , as shown here.
This brings up the Create Collection
Set dialog where you can name your
set. In this example, we're going to use
it to organize all the different shoots
from a wedding, so name it “Patterson
Wedding,” for Set choose None, and
click the Create button.
Step Two:
This empty collection set now appears in
the Collections panel. When you go to
create a new collection of shots from
this wedding, before you choose Create
Collection, just click once on the Patter-
son Wedding set, then choose Create
Collection from the little + (plus sign)
button's pop-up menu. What this does
is brings up the Create Collection dialog
with the Patterson Wedding collection
set already chosen (in the Set pop-up
menu) as the set to save this collection
into. If you forget to do this, it's no big
deal, you can always just choose Patterson
Wedding from the Set pop-up menu.
