Another important attribute of the Pantanos de Centla Park is its new nature center,
which uses attractive and functional architecture to bring people out over the water
(Figure 11.9). There are also houses for visiting scientists and workers as well as
what must certainly be one of the tallest observation towers located at any wetland
interpretation center (Figure 11.10). The boardwalks are very interesting in that they
are supported by recycled oil pipes (Figure 11.11) provided by PEMEX, which was a
major supporter of the project and donated millions of dollars to its construction. It
is important to have such walkways due to the presence of crocodiles who, somewhat
