about such tours is the ability to be able to enter into a cultural landscape and dis-
cover a whole array of people living within the wetlands, fishing, hunting, cattle
ranching, or selling gasoline to the tourist launches (FigureĀ  11.7). And similar to
the marshlands of southern Iraq are the bovines seen along the shores (FigureĀ 11.8).
These glimpses of indigenous wetland living are perhaps the most attractive attribute
of being a tourist in the Pantanos de Centla Park but must be balanced of course with
the recognition that such development must be tightly regulated in order to preserve
the ecological integrity of the region.
