6.6 Conclusion
JMP may also open up four windows: a home window, a JMP log window, a “Tip of the Day” window, and
a data window. The number of windows that open when you select an option may vary if you have already
seen the tip of the day or if you have more JMP data files open. Once the data is in the JMP data window,
there are several options that relate to sending it somewhere else. You can save the file and any changes
made; you can also save the file as something else. Or, if you have the proper metadata connections
established, the data can be sent to any of the metadata connections. No JMP application or metadata
examples are shown here because the object of this topic is moving the data, not how you use the data.
While many JMP features require a metadata connection, it is possible to use JMP without that connection
because you are able to access the data. That is true either because it is output by SAS to an Excel file or
because JMP can read a file formatted by SAS. The object of this chapter is to show that real SAS dataset
files can be processed through Excel to hand off the data to JMP.
