In-Depth Information
CGSP 2.0 released in April 2006, is based on the core of Globus Toolkit
4.0.1. CGSP is WSRF [9] and OGSA [10] compatible.
4.3.1
Functions
The main functions provided by CGSP2 are presented in this section.
1. Job execution: CGSP2 aims to provide a powerful platform to
execute various jobs, including a legacy program [11], Web service,
WS-Resource, and composite services that are actually dei ned
workl ows. For the legacy program, CGSP provides an efi cient
runtime environment which supports both common command-
line programs and MPI programs. And these programs can be
invoked not only with a simple Web service interface (WSDL) [12]
but also with a JSDL description [13]. Moreover, CGSP also
provides a uniform way to invoke Web services and WS-Resource.
Besides the ability to execute these atomic jobs, CGSP provides a
workl ow balancer server to execute composite jobs dei ned by
BPEL [14] effectively and efi ciently, through which Web services
and WS-Resource can be orchestrated to i nish a complex job.
2. Data space: CGSP2 also aims to provide a virtual storage space
and a reliable data transfer mechanism with high performance.
The purpose of the storage virtualization is to integrate the hetero-
geneous storage resources distributed in the grid environment.
From the perspective of a grid user, the data management compo-
nent provides a virtual i le system. One can execute operations on
the virtual i le system as he/she can do on local i le systems. The
requirements of the data transfer in CGSP are efi ciency, manage-
ability, and reliability. We plan to construct a mechanism imple-
mented by WSRF service so that each process of data transfer can
be managed as a WSRF resource. The creator of the resource is
able to start, suspend, restart, stop the transfer process, and get its
up-to-date status.
3. Heterogeneous database: CGSP2 aims to enable users in the grid
environment to access the services provided by various hetero-
geneous database more conveniently. It provides unii ed accessing
methods, which makes data integration possible and brings hetero-
geneity transparency, naming transparency, and distribution trans-
parency. Hence, CGSP is capable of being a supporting platform for
accessing the very large and basic heterogeneous databases.
4. User interface: CGSP2 aims to provide a user-friendly interface to
utilize CGSP functions. CGSP Portal provides Webpage interface
for the end user. From the Web portal, users can browse services
and resources in the grid, view users' data space, upload and
