digital Olympic grid, and so on. The third stage will, from 2007 to 2010,
extend the coverage of the ChinaGrid project to all 100 key universities.
The focus of third-stage grid applications will be even more diverse, and
include instrument sharing (e-Instrument). Figure 4.1 shows the current
distribution of the ChinaGrid members.
4.3
The underlying common grid middleware for the ChinaGrid project is
called the ChinaGrid Support Platform (CGSP) [8], supporting all grid
applications of the three different stages, which are e-Science, e-Info, and
e-Instrument. CGSP integrates all kinds of resources in education and
research areas, makes the heterogeneous and dynamic nature of resource
transparent to the users, and provides high-performance, highly reliable,
secure, convenient, and transparent grid services for the scientii c research.
CGSP provides the ChinaGrid service portal and a set of development
environment for deploying various grid applications. The current version,
