ACCOMMODATION, EATING, DRINKING
AND NIGHTLIFE
All accommodation and restaurants line the main road
along the coast. There are plenty of inexpensive homestays
in Amed and Jemeluk, and if you're prepared to cross the
road for a sea view rather than admire it from your
window, you can save even more money. The resorts, most
of which have decent restaurants, get more luxurious and
spread out the further you travel from Amed.
LIPAH BEACH

open-air bathrooms and sleeping up to four in a lovely
garden in the central part of Lipah Beach, with the beach
a short walk away. The restaurant (daily 7-10pm) has
vegetarian, fish and chicken dish es, plus French cakes, ice
cream and yoghurt. Rp350,000
Wawa Wewe In the village T 0363 23522, W baliwawa
wewe.com. The closest thing Amed has to nightlife - a
large bar that gets busy for its live music nights on
Wednesdays and Saturdays. The lads who run the place are
cheerful and friendly, they have two large a/c rooms to
rent (though don't expect much in the way of sleep) and
the food is decent too. Not to be confused with Wawa
Wewe 2 (or any of their oth er ventures), which is much
more expensive. Rp200,000
AMED, CONGKANG AND JEMELUK

amed.com. As well as economical fan-cooled rooms (and
more expensive a/c rooms with private verandas), Ganesh
Amed has a small pool and direct beach acce ss. Yoga and
meditation classes (Rp100,000) are available too. Rp300,000

road in Congkang, all with verandas, four-po ster beds, ho t
water and fans; two also have views of the bay. Rp315,000

spotless rooms run by friendly hosts, some opening
directly onto the beach. The surrounding area looks like a
construction site, but the rooms are still excellent value.

town, run by a lovely family, with comfy beds, crisp white
sheets and colourful embroidered tapestries on the walls.
It's worth paying a little extra for the upstairs rooms, which
have huge verandas for watching the sunrise over the bay.

As the name suggests, there's a top café too. Rp200,000
Warung Family Beside Sunrise Café, Jemeluk. The
cheapest tourist warung in the area, with fresh juices,
grilled tuna with a choice of sauces, and nasi or mie goreng
with barracuda or tuna for just Rp16,000. The highlight,
though, is the delicious coconut satay shrimp. Most dishes
are under Rp30,000. Daily 11am-10pm.
LEHAN, SELANG, BANYUNING AND AAS

.amed@gmail.com. Run by a Japanese-Balinese couple,
this place has just three rooms, each one immaculately
minimalist, in a cool, white, chic bungalow fronted by
a gorgeous pool. As it is set on the corner of the cliff at
Selang, the panoramic views are spectacular and the food
in the restaurant, including Japanese specialities such as
wasabi-s eared tuna, is excellent. Book the rooms well in
advance. Rp650,000
Baliku Across the road from the beach at Banyuning
T 0828 372 2601, W amedbaliku.com. This smart resort
restaurant has good Western food cooked by an Australian
chef (mains from Rp50,000), and free use of the showers
and pretty mosaic-tiled pool if you dine. The Japanese
wreck is just offshore. Daily 7am-10.30pm.
Eka Purnama Above the road between Banyuning and
Aas T 0828 372 2642, W eka-purnama.com. Situated on a
hillside, these four bamboo bungalows with tiled roofs
have large verandas looking seawards, fans and attached
bathrooms. The larger “Family Hou se” (Rp896,000) is a
good option for groups. Rp336,000
BUNUTAN
Aiona Garden of Health West end of Bunutan T 0813

hotel has charming cottages constructed from natural
materials (rates include a delicious breakfast). There's also
a lovely chilled-out vegetarian/vegan restaurant, open for
