cause its intricate portal was copied from the 13th-century Abbey Church in Ják in western
Hungary.
MUSEUM
TRANSPORTATION MUSEUM
(Közlekedési Múzeum; MAP GOOGLE MAP ; www.mmkm.hu ; XIV Városligeti körút 11; adult/child
1600/800Ft; 10am-5pm Tue-Fri, to 6pm Sat & Sun May-Sep, reduced hours Oct-Apr; ; 74, 75)
The Transportation Museum has one of the most enjoyable collections in Budapest and is a
great place for kids. In old and new wings there are scale models of ancient trains (some of
which run), classic late-19th-century automobiles, sailing boats and lots of those old
wooden bicycles called 'bone-shakers'. There are a few hands-on exhibits. Outside are
pieces from the original Danube bridges that were retrieved after the bombings of WWII,
and a cafe in an old MÁV coach.
NOTABLE BUILDINGS
ART NOUVEAU BUILDINGS
Two of the most extravagant Art Nouveau/Secessionist buildings in Budapest are within
easy walking distance of City Park. To the southeast is Sándor Baumgarten's National Insti-
tute for the Blind ( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; XIV Ajtósi Dürer sor 39; M1 Bajza utca) , dating from
1904, and to the south is the Institute of Geology ( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; XIV Stefánia út 14;
1) , designed by Ödön Lechner in 1899 and probably his best-preserved work. Check out the
three figures bent under the weight of a globe atop the stunning blue Zsolnay-tiled roof.
