In-Depth Information
Just to prove that vegetarian Tibetan food isn't a contradiction in terms, this Buddhist
place ('Bözhung Guenpen Gartse Sotsikhang' in Tibetan) serves excellent, healthy all-veg
dishes, including a lunch buffet. It's a central place with a pleasant environment but a bit
bland and no alcohol is served.
Arirang Korean Barbeque KOREAN
(, Ālǐlāng Shāokǎo MAP

from ¥10/30; )
For something a little different, this Korean Chinese place is popular for its barbecue,
which you grill up on hot plates at the table and then eat wrapped in lettuce leaves. If that
sounds like too much hard work, try the bibimbap (rice, vegetables and fried egg in a stone
pot), potato pancakes, kimchi soup or sushi-like rice rolls.
Mercifully, the photo menu simplifies the mind-bending complexities of having to order
Korean food in Chinese.
Norzing Selchung Tashi Yarphel Restaurant TIBETAN
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; Ramoche Lam/Xiaozhaosi Lu; dishes ¥10-35)
Super-convenient if you're visiting the next-door Ramoche Temple, this pleasant upstairs
Amdo Tibetan restaurant offers great views over the street below from the low Tibetan-
style tables. Try the set meal of shemdre for ¥23 or choose something more adventurous
from the photo menu, such as the tiger-skin chillies ( hǔpíqīngjiāo ).

)
This old-timer has a new location but is still an extremely popular place that serves a mix
of excellent Continental and Nepali food in very civilised surroundings. The Indian dishes
are particularly good, especially the tasty chicken butter masala and giant naan breads. The
cakes are the best in town; give the lemon pie our fond regards.
