Sponsor coordination responsibilities include:
1. Project sponsors must coordinate with counterparts at the leader-
ship-team level on budget and staffing issues. Implicit in this task is
ensuring that adequate resources are available for the project.
2. Coordination is required at the planning level to ensure that priori-
ties are clarified and that the project can proceed with the allotted
resources.
3. The sponsor also coordinates with the roles of data steward, data
administrator, and database administrator at project initiation and
periodically during the project life cycle.
4. Sponsors coordinate with higher level counterparts in the program
area that the projects fall within.
Other sponsor requirements include:
1. Every project must have clearly defined sponsorship.
2. Sponsorship is an ongoing responsibility that does not end with a
project's implementation; this role extends through the project life
cycle as well. Prior to beginning an information activity, a commit-
ment to this responsibility must be comprehended and accepted.
Data Steward
Effective resource management requires data that is current, accurate,
and readily available. To achieve this goal, responsibility for effective data
management must be assigned to data stewards from top to bottom within
the organization. Data automation and data sharing have increased the
necessity for accurate and immediate data accessibility. It is the data stew-
ard's role that is essential to meeting these requirements.
Data steward duties include:
1. The development of procedures and standards that ensure the data
is both acceptable and accurate in the applicable program area. It is
imperative that only data relevant to the organization's mission is
