Berlin's population passes the 3.5 million mark, growing 1.2%, the most within a single
year since reunification in 1990. Most of the growth comes from people moving to
Berlin.

Construction of the Berlin City Palace as the Humboldtforum intercultural centre
commences on 21 June. Planned completion date is 2019.
