From the majestic dome atop the Reichstag to the cloud-piercing Fernsehturm
(TV Tower), the jagged angles of the Jüdisches Museum (Jewish Museum) to
the baroque splendour of Schloss Charlottenburg and the warped dynamism
of the Berliner Philharmonie - Berlin boasts some mighty fine architecture. It's
an eclectic mix, to be sure, shaped by the city's unique history, especially the
destruction of WWII and the contrasting urban-planning visions during the
years of division. Since reunification, though, Berlin has become a virtual
laboratory for the world's elite architects, David Chipperfield, Norman Foster
and Daniel Libeskind among them.
