Vin Aqua Vin does triple duty as a wine shop, bar and eatery amid a homey, anti-snob vibe
that takes out the intimidation factor and means even hipsters drop by for a sip.
Instead of expensive trophy wines, owner Jan Kreuzinger pours and sells a shifting set of
affordable boutique favorites, many from small German producers with a willingness to ex-
periment.
BAR
KLUNKERKRANICH
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; www.klunkerkranich.de ; Karl-Marx-Strasse 66;
10am-midnight Mon-Sat,
noon-midnight Sun, weather permitting; Rathaus Neukölln)
Open only in the warmer months, Klunkerkranich (German for 'wattled crane') is a club-
garden-beach-bar combo that 'roosts' amid potted plants on the rooftop parking deck of the
Neukölln Arcaden shopping mall. It's a great place for sundowners while chilling to local
DJs or bands.
BAR
DAS TIER
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; Weserstrasse 42; 7pm-2am; M41, Rathaus Neukölln)
Neukölln barflys with a hankering for finely crafted cocktails flock to this softly lit laid-
back lair. With its top-shelf spirits, smartly clad pro bar staff and small-groups-only policy,
the vibe feels grown-up for the area. Try its inspired take on the Old Fashioned, a smoky
Blood and Sand or the Mescal Sour.
CLUB
FUCHS & ELSTER
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; www.fuchsundelster.com ; Weserstrasse 207; M41, M29, Hermannplatz)
The basement club Fuchs und Elster takes its name from two characters out of an East Ger-
man children's TV show. DJs (and the occasional band) rock the comfy, low-ceilinged cellar
with a broad musical spectrum ranging from soul, swing and funk to jazz and Eastern
European pop-rock.
BAR, CLUB
FREUDENREICH
( MAP GOOGLE MAP ; Sonnenallee 67; from 7pm Tue-Sat; M41, Rathaus Neukölln)
Past the upstairs bar, a narrow spiral staircase descends to two small rooms and a heavy
door beyond which electro dominates the musical spectrum, with occasional field trips to
jazz, funk and rock. 'Pong Club' on Tuesdays and Thursdays brings table-tennis competi-
tions and movie screenings.
