Steered by the seminal Max Reinhardt from 1905 until 1932, the DT is still among Berlin's
top stages. Now under artistic director Ulrich Khuon, the repertory includes both classical
and bold new plays that usually reflect the issues and big themes of today. Plays are also
performed in the adjacent
Kammerspiele
and at the 80-seat Box + Bar.

The company founded by Bertolt Brecht in 1949 is based at the neo-baroque theatre where
his
Threepenny Opera
premiered in 1928. Since 1999, artistic director Claus Peymann has
kept the master's legacy alive while also peppering the repertory with works by Kleist,
Shakespeare and other European playwrights.
