At the other end of the spectrum, the World Trade Center (WTC) complex
provides insight to Barcelona's promising future. According to the Tourist Office of
Spain, the WTC Association (an organization of nearly 300 centers in almost 100
countries) was created “to stimulate world trade and to increase cultural exchange
and the development of nations.” This stunning waterfront complex solidifies Bar-
celona's position as a major portal to European and Mediterranean markets.
Arriving by Air
Barcelona Airport ( Tel: 902 404 704; Fax: 93 478 4736; Email: bcnin-
fofi@aena.es; www.aena-aeropuertos.es ) is about 8 miles (13 km) from the city.
Transportation to and from is easily available and inexpensive. Foreign currency
exchange and ATMs are available in both Terminals A and B. Look for signs
ARGENTARIA or LA CAIXA. Tourist information is also available in both terminals from
0900 to 2100 daily.
Airport-City Links: Cercanias/Rodalie local line No. 1 trains connect travelers
to Barcelona Sants Station in 17 minutes and depart every half hour from the
airport 0530 to 2330 daily. The station is connected to the airport terminals by
moving walkways. Follow the pictograms. Trains depart from track No. 1 in Bar-
celona Sants Station every half hour to the airport; Fare: €4.10 Monday through
Friday; €4.00 weekends and holidays.
The Aerobus service departs the airport every 10 minutes 0600 to 0105
Monday through Friday and 0630 to 0000 on weekends and holidays. Time en
route is about 30 minutes. It stops at all three terminals on the way to and from
Plaça de Catalunya. Aerobuses are equipped to handle wheelchairs.
Fare: €5.90 one-way, €10.20 round-trip.
Approximate taxi fare from the airport to city center is €20-€30, depending
on destination.
Arriving by Train
Barcelona Sants Station (Estacio de Sants), Plaça Països Catalans The Sants
Station is the center of Barcelona's transportation system. Most bus lines, all metro
lines (through transfers), and both regional and long-distance trains are avail-
able here. The high-speed Euromed trains to Alicante, Castellón, Tarragona, and
Valencia depart from the Sants Station, as well as direct trains to Montpellier for
connections to Paris and Geneva on TGVs (French high-speed trains).
