music channels, family areas with games for kids, facilities for the disabled, tele-

include access to AVE club lounges, newspapers, and magazines. In-seat food/
beverage service is provided only in Club Class.
Ultramodern Talgo 200 trains link Madrid and Malaga in a little more than four

Barcelona as it is today, the New Barcelona, was created only in 1874 by joining
27 separate municipalities. It has become Spain's most prosperous port and has
developed a thriving industrial complex. The center of this new metropolitan area
is the Plaça de Catalunya, a square rimmed with trees and highlighted by sculp-
tures and fountains—and an abundance of pigeons. This square is where Old and
New Barcelona meet.
Founded in ancient times by the Phoenicians and occupied by the Romans,
Old Barcelona is composed of three districts: Barri Gótic, or the Gothic Quarter,
and the Ribera and Raval districts. A visit to the History Museum in Plaça del Rei
square provides insight to Barcelona's rich and ancient past.
