In-Depth Information
Lekker Lekker is Dutch for “tempting,” which this striking store certainly is. A per-

niture as well as a delightful selection of gifts for adults and children. Closed Monday.

West Elm The minimalist purveyor of furniture, home accessories, linens, and tex-
tiles (also known as Williams Sonoma's answer to Crate & Barrel) operates its first
Boston branch in a somewhat inconvenient location near Fenway Park. If this is your
style—for decorating or daydreaming—it's worth the time. 160 Brookline Ave. & 888/

High Gear Jewelry The biggest jewelry snob I know makes up excuses to visit
the North End just so she can stop in here. This eye-catching shop right on the Free-
dom Trail carries an impressive selection of reasonably priced costume jewelry,
watches, and hair accessories. If you don't see what you want, ask the friendly staff for
help—the owner recently turned a pair of pierced earrings into clip-ons for my sister
in a matter of seconds, for no extra charge. 204 Hanover St. & 617/523-5804. T: Green or
Orange Line to Haymarket.
John Lewis, Inc. John Lewis's imaginative women's and men's jewelry—
crafted on the premises—suits both traditional and avant-garde tastes. The wide selec-
tion of silver, gold, and platinum items and unusual colored stones add to the
museum-like shop's appeal. The pieces that mark you as a savvy Bostonian are ear-
rings, necklaces, and bracelets made of hammered metal circles. Closed Sunday and
Monday. 97 Newbury St. & 617/266-6665. www.johnlewisinc.com. T: Green Line to Arlington.
