In-Depth Information
it's a crossroads for office workers, out-of-towners, and enthusiastic consumers. You
can while away a couple of hours or a whole day shopping and dining here and at the
adjacent Shops at the Prudential Center (see below) without ever going outdoors.
Some of Copley Place's 100-plus shops will be familiar from the mall at home, but this
is emphatically not a suburban shopping complex that happens to be in the city. You'll
see high-end stores that don't have another branch in Boston, including Christian Dior
( & 617/927-7577), Gucci ( & 617/247-3000), Jimmy Choo ( & 617/927-9570), Louis
Vuitton ( & 617/437-6519), and Tiffany & Co. ( & 617/353-0222). The anchor depart-
ment stores here are Barneys New York and Neiman Marcus. Also here are the Artful
Hand Gallery (p. 207) and a branch of Legal Sea Foods (p. 106).
Open Monday through Saturday from 10am to 9pm, Sunday from 11am to 7pm.
Some stores have longer or shorter hours, and most restaurants are open through late
evening. 100 Huntington Ave. & 617/369-5000. www.simon.com. T: Orange Line to Back Bay or

Faneuil Hall Marketplace The original festival market hall is both wildly
popular and widely imitated, and Faneuil Hall Marketplace changes constantly to
appeal to visitors as well as locals wary of its touristy reputation. The original part of
Faneuil Hall itself dates to 1742, and the lower floors preserve the building's retail
roots. The Quincy Market Colonnade, in the central building, houses a gargantuan
selection of food and confections. The bars and restaurants always seem to be
crowded, and the shopping is terrific, if generic.
In and around the five buildings, the shops combine “only in Boston” with “only
at every mall in the country.” Marketplace Center and the ground floors of the
North Market and South Market buildings have lots of chain outlets. Most of the
unique offerings are under the Quincy Market canopies, where crafts and gifts spill off
dozens of pushcarts, and upstairs and downstairs in the market buildings.
Shop hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am to 9pm and Sunday from noon
to 6pm. The Colonnade opens earlier, and most bars and restaurants close later. If you
must drive, many businesses offer a discount at the 75 State St. Garage; there's also park-
ing in the Government Center garage off Congress Street and the marketplace's crowded
garage off Atlantic Avenue. Between North, Congress, and State sts. and Atlantic Ave. & 617/338-2323.

The Shops at Prudential Center The main level of the city's second-tallest tower
holds this sprawling complex. In addition to Saks Fifth Avenue ( & 617/262-8500 ),
there are dozens of shops and boutiques, a large Barnes & Noble (p. 205), a food
court, a post office, and five restaurants, including Legal Sea Foods (p. 106) and the
Cheesecake Factory. Also here are Boston's branches of Club Monaco ( & 617/
262-2658 ) and Sephora (p. 218), and one of a handful of retail outlets for the upscale
office and home accessories that Levenger ( &
