ONCLUSION
In hydroponics, the cleaner environment has been considered important to avoid risks by
diseases. But the present study demonstrated that a pumice medium may become suppressive
against different media-borne diseases by repeated cultivation in the same medium possibly
due to accumulation of organic matters and consequent enrichment of certain types of
antagonistic microorganisms. In addition, it was clarified that addition of lysine into the
pumice medium to enhance microbial activity may be effective at reducing bacterial wilt with
low cost.
