Thoughts for an Organizational Leader
Data product authoring skills are an important aspect of knowledge economy
jobs. Most professionals need to know how to create a PowerPoint deck or
manipulate an Excel spreadsheet. Data product authoring, however, encom-
passes many more skills that may not be as common. We suggest benchmark-
ing data product authoring skill levels year over year. Creating a performance
index can help identify the missing skills and need for training. Typically,
organizations score lower on data product authoring skills (Component 2)
than data consumer literacy (Component 1).

COMPONENT 3: DATA FLuENT CuLTuRE

An organization can put policies and procedures in place as well as establish
an organizational culture to guide and promote data fluency. In particular,
we look at factors related to leadership, awareness of key metrics, shared
understanding, and everyday data use.
