Thoughts for an Organizational Leader
The ability to be a conscientious data consumer is essential in today's knowl-
edge economy. We recommend that organizations establish a baseline score
and track progress year over year. Furthermore, individual scores can be
returned to employees in a confidential manner in order for them to estab-
lish a performance improvement plan with regard to data consumer literacy.
Individual scores versus colleague scores can be evaluated to understand if
there are gaps between self-assessed and perceived skills.
COMPONENT 2: DATA PRODuCT AuTHORS
The first set of questions about data product authors takes an inventory of
common data authoring tools by measuring their usage across employees.
No points are awarded to these questions; however, important information
may be revealed.
The skills of data product authors are evaluated in the remainder of this survey
component. The individual employee skills are self-assessed, then respondents
are asked to record their perceptions about colleagues' skills.
