are typically equated with thicker paint, while a rougher grain is equated with thin paints or stains. With the
graininess set to 5%, the painted wood material should now look something like the image shown in Figure
11-4 . This demonstrates the effect of a thick paint.

Creating Stained Wood
To create the appearance of thinner paint, the graininess needs to be increased to around 20%. However,
increasing the Wood Graininess value alone will not complete the effect. The thinner the paint, the less re-
flectivity there will be across the surface. To achieve the look of stained wood, the Specular/Reflective val-
ues need to be decreased significantly or completely disabled. Adding a small amount of Fresnel (3%-5%)
is appropriate for this type of material. The reflections also need to be spread more widely across the surface,
so the Roughness should be increased to around 30%. Finally, the Bump Amplitude should be increased to
