In-Depth Information
Unlike interior wood materials that cover large, flat surfaces, exterior woods typically do not cover un-
interrupted space in two dimensions. That is to say, a tall piece of interior wood rarely has a large amount
of width, and visa versa. This lack of area allows procedural materials to be used without the obvious lack
of realism. Because the wood grain is only mildly visible, its photographic textures are not as important. To
create a wood bump map on the painted surface, do the following:
1. Add a Hardwood texture layer to the painted surface (Add Layer Enhance: modo Textures Or-
ganic Hardwood).
2. Leave the layer set to the default Diffuse Color effect while adjusting the scale of the texture.
3. Reduce the Size values to around 50 mm (adjust as needed for your scene).
4. Change the layer effect to Bump.
5. In the material layer, adjust Bump Amplitude to around 1 mm to make the effect less pronounced.
At this point, you should see the effect of the wood grain under the surface of the paint. If the effect is
too rough, the Wood Graininess value can be decreased to smooth the surface appearance. Smoother values
