The Transparent Color setting is used to tint transparent objects. This, however, is not usually a simple
fix for adding color, and the Absorption Distance value needs to be considered. This setting determines the
amount of distance a light ray must travel through a transparent object before the transparent color is re-
turned. When the object thickness is less than this distance, a lighter version of the color appears. When used
properly, this will help add depth and the appearance of real thickness in colored, transparent objects. The
distance should be set starting at the maximum thickness of the object. This allows for subtle variation in the
surface color. From this point, the distance can be adjusted up or down depending on the material. Figure
6-41 shows a Depth of 60 mm.
