In-Depth Information
Before creating the interior of the bottle, you will convert this model into subdivision surfaces and prop-
erly weight the edges to achieve the subtle transition from sharp to rounded edges along the bottle's length.
This can be achieved by using the Vertex Map Weight tool (Shift+W) in conjunction with another simple
Linear falloff. To achieve this effect, do the following:
1. Place the object in PSub mode by pressing Shift+Tab.
2. Select the four vertical edge loops by double-clicking on one edge in each loop.
3. Activate a Linear falloff and set Auto Size to the y-axis.
4. In the lower-right section of the screen, choose the List tab, open the Weight Maps subheading, and
select Subdivision.
5. Press Shift+W to activate the Vertex Map Weight tool.
6. Click and drag in the viewport to set the current weight map value (a setting of 19% to 20% should
give the desired result).
7. If the falloff is causing the bottle to sharpen at the top, click the Reverse button to invert the direction
of the falloff.
8. After you have set the edge weight, you can adjust the position of the falloff to smooth the transition
between sharp and smooth edges.
With the edge weights set, your bottle should now look something like the one shown in Figure 5-28 .
