In-Depth Information
Figure 5-28: With edge weights properly set, the bottle will show a smooth transition between smooth and
soft edges.
When you created the interior of the plastic bottle earlier in this topic, thickening the polygons that made
up the exterior made the correct interior form with very few adjustments. In this case, the interior shape of
the bottle will not match the exterior shape, so this approach would not easily produce the desired results. In-
stead, select the top polygon and bevel it inward to create the lip of the bottle. Then create additional bevels
that extend downward (by holding Shift while clicking in the viewport). You may choose to flare or taper
these bevels as you go to create the finished interior. You will notice that the lip is very rounded. If you were
to use edge weights to sharpen this, additional pinching could result along the vertical edges of the bottle.
To avoid this, the use of additional edge loops will add rigidity without the unwanted pinching. Select two
polygons running around the lip and activate the Loop Slice tool (Alt/Option+C). Set the Count to 2 and the
mode to Symmetry. Click in the viewport and drag to set the sharpness, using these additional edges. You
should now have the completed bottle without a cap, as shown in Figure 5-29 .
