Cokaliong service). As well as ferries to Dumaguete,
another way to Negros is to ride the bus down to Bato or

BY CAR
Car and driver You may prefer to charter a car with driver
to get around the island; many tourists simply flag down
a taxi and negotiate a flat rate with the driver, usually
P2000-2500 for the day or a one-way trip to, say, Moalboal
or Maya. Many of the bigger hotels have their own cars
with drivers, but you'll pay significantly more.
Rental companies Many firms, including Alamo and Avis,
have kiosks at the airport. In town, Alamo is at the Waterfront
Cebu City , Salinas Drive ( T 032 232 6888) and Hertz is at the
Marriott , Cardinal Rosales Ave ( T 032 232 6100).
GETTING AROUND
By bus Cebu City's Bus Rapid Transit System is still on the
drawing board, meaning jeepney and vans are the principal
public transport.
By taxi Taxis are plentiful and it's not hard to find a driver
who's willing to use the meter. The tariff is P2.50 per 200m
plus a flagfall of P40; a typical cross-city trip costs P100-
150 outside rush hour.
By jeepney and van Jeepneys and open-sided Isuzu
vans painted in outrageous colours ply dozens of cross-city
routes. From Colon St, they run almost everywhere: east to
the piers and the SM City Mall, north to Fuente Osmeña,
northeast to Ayala Center and south to Carbon Market.
There are also jeepneys along N. Escario St, north of Ayala
Center, heading east to Mandaue and west and southwest
to the Provincial Capitol Building, Fuente Osmeña and
the Colon St area. The standard fare for each leg, or part
thereof, is P8.
