Jumalon Museum and Butterfly Sanctuary
Jumalon St, Basak • 9am-5pm • P50 • T 032 261 6884 • Taxis cost P150 (20min); alternatively, take any jeepney heading along the Cebu
South Rd to Friendship Village or Basak, get off at the Holy Cross Parish Church and look out for Jumalon St near Basak Elementary School
Four kilometres west of the centre in the largely residential suburb of Basak, the
Jumalon Museum and Butterfly Sanctuary is lepidopteran heaven, with rooms full of
glass display cases and a large garden at the back with live butterflies fluttering around.
As well as everyday species such as monarchs and viceroys, there are also rare examples
such as albinos, melanics, dwarfs and conjoined twins.
ARRIVAL AND DEPARTURE
6
CEBU CITY
Jeepneys and buses line up along nearby Sergio Osmeña
Blvd for the short journey into the city. Taxis wait to meet
arriving ferries and should agree to use the meter.
Bookings and information As well as ticket o ces at
the piers, travel agents and hotels throughout the city can
book ferry tickets (see p.275). A good place to get up-to-
date ferry information is from the shipping pages of local
newspapers. There's also a shipping schedules channel on
the local Sky Cable TV network, available in some hotels.
BY PLANE
Mactan Cebu International Airport Cebu flights land
at Mactan Cebu International Airport ( T 032 340 2486,
W mciaa.gov.ph) on Mactan Island. There is a tourist
information counter in the arrivals hall (5am-9pm) where
you can pick up the Department of Tourism's city and island
map. The arrivals hall also has car rental booths for Avis,
FastTransit and Friends, all reputable and offering a car
with driver from P2000 per day. The departure tax from
Cebu is P550 for international flights; this is now included
in domestic fares.
Getting into town To get into Cebu City, 8km across the
suspension bridge, yellow airport metered cabs (P250-
350) are cheaper than white fixed-rate taxis, but the latter
are reasonable for destinations further afield (P2300 for
Hagnaya for example). State your destination at the kiosk
and you'll be escorted to your car.

SHIPPING LINES AND FERRIES
The three main fast boat companies are Oceanjet, Weesam
and 2Go. 2Go is a conglomerate of ferry companies (Cebu
Ferries, Negros Navigation, SuperCat and SuperFerry)
acquired by the Chinese government a few years ago,
which operate both fast and slow boats and generally offer
the most comfortable and professional service. Confusingly,
routes operated by SuperCat still go under this name, and
you may also see reference to the other old company
names in outdated print material and signage.
