a sketchy drop-off that leads down onto the trail. Make your way down the small trail to
bathe in the beauty of this roadside favorite. On days with heavy rainfall, the three-part
falls can become a single torrent of angry runoff. On days like this, enjoy the falls from a
distance.
Mile Marker 22.6: Pua'a Ka'a State Wayside Park
Pua'a Ka'a State Wayside Park
This small roadside park sports the best name of any site along the drive: It translates as
“Park of the Rolling Pigs.” Most people stop for the restrooms. There are also small picnic
pavilions on the mauka side of the highway looking out over the stream. A short, three-
minute walk leads from the road up the stream to an underrated swimming pool and wa-
terfall. This small waterfall is the most accessible along the Road to Hana. Signs warn
against venturing farther than the first falls; respect them. Driving past “the park of the
rolling pigs,” will bring you to a curvy section of road, with little in the way of sights for
two miles.
