In-Depth Information
Casanova (1188 Makawao Ave., 808/572-0220, www.casanovamaui.com ,
7:30am-5:30pm Mon.-Sat., 8:30am-5:30pm Sun., $7) offers deli sandwiches on five dif-
ferent types of bread as well as a full range of affordable salads. Sit at the tables inside or
on the patio stools facing the happening street corner.
If you're looking to catch the big game or craving a local draft beer, the local hangout
Stopwatch Bar and Grill (1127 Makawao Ave., 808/572-1380,
www.stopwatchmaui.com , 11am-10pm Mon.-Sat., 8am-10pm Sun., $8-10) is Makawao's
token sports bar. Flat-screen TVs circle the bar, and burger and sandwich offerings round
out the lunchtime menu.
Of course an authentic ranching town has its own steak house, the dimly lit, dark
wood Makawao Steak House (3612 Baldwin Ave., 808/572-8711, 5pm-9pm Tues.-Sun.,
$25-30). There are few things better than hunkering down behind this old-western-style
storefront with a warm bowl of Maui onion soup on a cool winter evening. The steak fillets
are expertly prepared (though curiously served with a side of beans). This is a longtime
local date-night venue where the price is steeper than other places around town.
Hali'imaile General Store offers fine dining in a casual setting.
