A true hole-in-the-wall favorite, the Makawao Garden Café (3669 Baldwin Ave., 808/
573-9065, www.makawaogardencafe.com , 11am-3pm Mon.-Sat., $6-9) is hidden in an al-
cove next to the Sherri Reeve art gallery. The café only offers outdoor seating, which
means that when it rains, the restaurant closes. Laid-back and only open for lunch, its op-
tions include a baby brie and bacon sandwich or quinoa salad with goat cheese.
Polli's Mexican Restaurant is a Makawao favorite.
If you're in the mood for a turkey or club sandwich paired with freshly squeezed
juices, the deli counter inside Rodeo General Store (3661 Baldwin Ave., 808/572-1868,
6:30am-10pm Mon.-Sat., 6:30am-9pm Sun., $8-10) serves filling and affordable deli sand-
wiches which are great for anyone on the run. Spend the extra money for a “Green
Machine,” an all-natural collection straight from the juicer, with celery, apple, parsley,
kale, and cucumber blended into a healthy dose of energy.
