In-Depth Information
Aside from the high-end corporate stores, you can also find a few island-themed
shops offering unique and boutique souvenirs. At Sand People (808/891-8801,
www.sandpeople.com ) you can pick up coastal-inspired gifts and home decor, and Martin
& MacArthur (808/891-8844, www.martinandmacarthur.com ) showcases Hawaiian-
made crafts and an assortment of koa woods. If you're in town for a wedding but you're
missing something from your cosmetics kit, Cos Bar (808/891-9448, www.cosbar.com )
carries makeup lines such as Bobbi Brown that you can't find anywhere else on the island.
If you're in need of a fancy gift, Na Hoku (808/891-8040) offers unique Hawaiian-in-
spired jewelry.
Wailea Gateway Plaza
Although it doesn't have anywhere near the glitz and glamour of the Shops at Wailea, the
awkwardly placed little Wailea Gateway Center (10 Wailea Ike Dr.) still has a couple
of boutique shops worth paying a visit. There are two clothing boutiques on the lower
level, one of which, Maui Memories (808/298-0261, www.mauiislandmemories.com ,
10am-9pm daily), features locally made jewelry, fashions, and artwork. Among the two
standout items in the store are Nina Kuna jewelry, which has been featured on the cover
of Sports Illustrated, and artwork from local photographer Randy Jay Braun. Right next
door, Otaheite Hawaii (808/419-6179, www.otaheitehawaii.com , 10am-9pm Mon.-Sat.,
10am-6pm Sun.) specializes in chic beach clothing centered around the island lifestyle,
which means lots of swimwear and sundresses to accompany the gifts and accessories.
With the clothing shopping taken care of, move next door to Jeré Diamonds and Fine
Jewelry (808/879-1967, www.jerediamonds.com , 10:30am-8pm Mon.-Sat., noon-6pm
Sun.) which features an impressive range of not only diamonds, but also pearls, gemstones,
and local paintings. This store holds its own with Tiffany's or Baron and Leeds down the
street, and also features a lot of the artists who live on the island. The prices are more reas-
onable as well.
If your sweet tooth is aching after shopping, Sweet Paradise Chocolatier (808/
344-1040, www.sweetparadisechocolate.com , 10am-8pm daily) will lure you with the
scent of richly made chocolate. In addition to having an ornate spread of fine chocolates,
all of the items are made right here on the island, and some of the cacao is even grown in
Hawai'i—the only state which currently grows cacao.
The Aloha Shirt Museum and Boutique (808/875-1308, www.the-aloha-shirt-mu-
seum.com , 11am-9pm daily) above Pita Paradise is a fascinating stop if you're looking for
an aloha shirt. They carry styles that haven't been seen in decades (particularly the long
