GETTING MARRIED IN THE ISLANDS
Say 'I do' in the Virgins, and you sure won't have to travel far for a honeymoon. The
islands make it fairly easy to get hitched on their shores.
USVI
» In the USVI, couples must apply for a marriage license at the Territorial Court in
Charlotte Amalie, St Thomas or Christiansted, St Croix. The combined marriage ap-
plication and license fee is $100, and there is a mandatory eight-day waiting period
after the court receives the paperwork. Licenses then must be picked up in person.
» If a judge performs the ceremony, it costs an additional $200. A clergy member also
can do the deed, for which costs vary.

BVI
» In the BVI, couples must apply for a license ($110) Monday through Friday at the
registrar's office in Road Town, Tortola. The waiting period is three days. The regis-
trar then charges an additional $35 to perform the ceremony at the office, or $100
to marry a couple at a different location. Those who wish to get married in a church
must make arrangements for an announcement to appear there for three consecutive
Sundays beforehand.
