Internet Access
» It's easy to find internet access. Internet cafes cluster in the main tourist areas, often near
marinas and cruise ship docks. Access generally costs $5 per half hour.
» Wi-fi is widely available. Most lodgings have it in their public areas (though it is less
common in-room), as do many restaurants and bars in the main towns. We've identi-

Legal Matters
Police
» If you are stopped by the police for any reason, bear in mind that there is no system of
paying fines on the spot. Attempting to pay the fine to the officer may compound your
troubles by resulting in a charge of bribery.
» For traffic offenses, the police officer will explain your options to you. Should the officer
decide that you should pay up front, he or she can take you directly to the magistrate.
» If you are arrested for more serious offenses, you are allowed to remain silent. All persons
who are arrested are legally allowed (and given) the right to make one phone call. If you
don't have a lawyer or family member to help you, call the nearest embassy. The police
will give you the number upon request.
Drugs & Alcohol
» The blood-alcohol limit in Virgin Islands is 0.08%. Driving under the influence of alcohol
is a serious offense, subject to stiff fines and even imprisonment.
» Getting caught smoking or possessing marijuana (or any illegal drug) can send you to jail
in a hurry.
» Open-container laws do not exist in the Virgin Islands, so you can drink on the streets.
