Entertainment
Several bars and restaurants host bands throughout the week. Click the 'live music' link at
See St John( www.seestjohn.com ) for a daily schedule.
Fred's Bar Disco & Restaurant NIGHTCLUB
(King St; cover charge $10) Across the street from the Lime Inn, Fred's has been a gath-
ering spot forever. This is the place to be if you crave reggae and calypso, or if you want to
party with a mix of euphoric West Indians and continentals. Bands usually play Saturday;
at time of research it was country music, but you never know who will take the stage.
St John Film Society CINEMA
( www.stjohnfilm.com ) A group of local filmmakers and film enthusiasts screen free,
Caribbean-focused art films and documentaries in Cruz Bay and Coral Bay. Check the web-
site for times and places.
Shopping
St John's shopping district is, to a large extent, Cruz Bay. Here you will find a collection of
boutiques, galleries, studio shops and salons mostly located in two attractive shopping ar-
cades. WharfsideVillage is on the waterfront just to the south of the ferry dock. The larger
Mongoose Junction is a place that looks like a collection of Italian palaces on the North
Shore Rd near the national park visitors center. A third collection of shops is in the Mar-
ketplacebuilding , on Southside Rd (aka Rte 104) about a 15-minute walk southeast from
the ferry dock. Most shops have long hours, usually 10am to 8pm Monday to Saturday and
to 6pm Sunday.
Starfish Market FOOD
(MarketplaceBldg; 7:30am-9pm) Self-caterers can head to this full-service supermar-
ket that offers good produce and a deli. In a separate shop, across the hall from the main
market's front door, you'll find a wide selection of beer, wine and cheese in the gourmet
market.
