In-Depth Information
JJ's Texas Coast Cafe TEX-MEX $
( 340-776-6908; mains $7-14; breakfast & lunch) The town's party animals often
rejoin the world here to munch on steak and eggs or the breakfast burrito after a night of
reggae and calypso.
Happy Fish JAPANESE $$
( 340-776-1717; Marketplace Bldg; mains $10-20; lunch & dinner) Happy Fish
slices the island's only sushi. Many city slickers find it's not quite the quality they get at
home, but it'll do. Sit at the eight tables or so sprinkled around the room, at the sushi bar,
or do what most folks do - carry out.
ZoZo's ITALIAN $$$
( 340-693-9200; www.zozos.net ; Gallows Point Resort; mains $35-40; dinner
Mon-Sat) ZoZo's plates high-end northern Italian fare, like osso bucco (veal shank
simmered in red wine, tomato and veal stock) and shrimp on white truffle risotto, accom-
panied by million-dollar views.
Drinking
Most places stay open until 2am on Friday and Saturday, and until 1am the rest of the week.
Woody's Seafood Saloon BAR
( www.woodysseafood.com ; from 11am) St John's daily party starts at Woody's at
3pm, when the price on domestic beers drops precipitously. By 4pm the crowd in this tiny
place has spilled over onto the street. Bartenders pass beers out a street-side window. Mean-
while, the crowd basks in the glow of the tropical sun and listens to The Rolling Stones or
Merle Haggard blasting from the sound system. Over the course of the night, the gang ebbs
and flows, but by 11pm, Woody's has a crowd inside and out. The result is part frat party,
part college reunion. And while you probably won't meet the love of your life at Woody's,
you may well meet somebody to love.
